UPDATE - January 2023 - Project Groundbreaking and Funding

What is happening now and why it matters
In mid-January, construction crews began demolition work to access the main pool’s water treatment plumbing. As of January 30, they have already begun re-plumbing all of the pool skimmers as well as the new main drain (at the bottom of the pool). The skimmers do just that, they “skim” leaves, debris, Barbie Dolls and water off the surface of the pool. The main drain pulls water from the deep end. Together these important pool elements draw water from the pool to be filtered and cleaned.

Before, we had 2-inch lines that had developed issues over the last six decades. Even with nice new pumps, we simply could not “turn over” the pool of all its water in the six hours recommended and required. The new, four and five inch plumbing will allow our pumps to do their job and keep our pool crystal clear.

CONSTRUCTION CREWS HAVE EXCAVATED AS MUCH AS 5 FEET OF EARTH AROUND THE ENTIRE MAIN POOL TO ACCOMPDATE NEWER AND LARGER DIAMETER PLUMBING, PROVIDING MORE EFFICIENT AND POWERFUL WATER TREATMENT OPTIONS.

Similar edits are being made to the wading pool, with the addition of a skimmer that will greatly improve our ability to maintain water clarity and safety for our members.

VOLUNTEER LANDSCAPERS HAVE PLANTED BLUESTEM GRASSES AND OTHER NATIVE SPECIES AROUND THE POOL EXTERIOR.

While it still may be cold out, our volunteer board is busy volunteering in their various areas of pledged assistance. If you see newly cleared brush and small plants like these native bluestem grasses, watch your step. They are small now, but should grow quickly and require little maintenance once established.

Please stay tuned for upcoming volunteer days. If getting a little dirty outdoors sounds refreshing to you, we will have plenty of that kind of work coming up soon!
